Learn About Our Materials.
Explore the fabric, waistband, labels, thread, inks, packaging + labor that set do+dare underwear apart from the rest.
1 ― Fabric.
We only use a bamboo based fabric for our underwear - it's one of mother nature's wonder materials and is the premium material for underwear and loungewear.
Raw bamboo feedstock is grown naturally in south-east Asia. Processing, milling, knitting and dying performed in China.
(if we could get it made in North America we would!)
Read more about why we choose bamboo, how it's made, and what rayon is here.
2 ― Waistband.
Our perfectly thick, 7-layer, fully woven, super soft and smooth waistband maintains its shape + elasticity, and won't roll or bunch up.
Proprietary blend of polyester, nylon and spandex.
Proudly made in the USA.
3 ― Labels / Tag.
Our innovative QR code label is placed on the outside of the underwear to eliminate irritation and is made from a natural cotton canvas for durability.
Sidenote: As far as we're aware, we are the first in the world to place a QR code for customer reference onto underwear!
100% natural cotton canvas.
Proudly made in Canada.
4 ― Thread.
Our thread is made from polyester for durability and longevity. The stitching is specifically designed to stretch as you move preventing snug points and irritation.
Woven and dyed in Canada.
5 ― Inks.
Our inks produce incredibly vibrant, color accurate prints that stand out wash after wash. Tested to strict global standards, they are safe for all ages and for your most sensitive areas.
Manufactured in Japan.
6 ― Packaging.
Our packaging is 100% waste-free. We use a paperclip, elastic band and beer coaster, and we ship in padded paper mailers. Please reuse everything and recycle instead of discarding.
Coasters are made with wood pulp from the German Black Forest.
Rubber bands are made from natural rubber.
Mailers are 100% paper based and fully recyclable.
(rubber bands do contain latex - please advise if you have a sensitivity and we will package without them)
Coaster material is from Germany, and processed in Canada.
Mailers are made in the USA + Canada.
Paper clips + elastic bands are from global sources.
7 ― Labor.
We've chosen to manufacture as much as possible in the USA and Canada.
There are so many reasons why we believe this is the right thing to do:
- It directly supports our local economies, which benefits us all.
- We know our workers, and those of our partners, are treated fairly - they earn a fair living wage, have protection of rights and work in safety.
- We stand for a society with forward thinking human rights, such as the removal of oppression towards members of the LGBTQ+ community, equality for women and equal treatment for all, regardless of race or religion.
- We're able to innovate faster, and with higher quality.
- We want to be able to teach our children + the upcoming generations how to think for themselves, how to innovate and how to create products that make a difference.
- All the parts of our underwear are better.
Our underwear are sewn by a female led team of master seamstresses in Toronto, Canada.
All inking, and order fulfillment is perfomed by do+dare in-house at our studio in Burlington, Canada.
Did you know?
It costs us 3x more to make underwear in the US + Canada than it would for us to buy them overseas - this is a daring commitment to our local economy + our future generations.
We believe that if we don't make things here, we'll lose all sorts of expertise and we won't be able to teach our children - as designers, engineers, craftspeople + teachers, this fuels us to dream big and create change.
We hope you'll join us on our quest to bring high-quality, innovative, + ethical apparel manufacturing back to North America.
Uniquely yours. Sustainable. Ethical. Made in the USA + Canada.
