Sweden announced this month that it's planning to ban PFAS - the "forever chemicals" - in clothing and footwear starting in 2028. The specific target is performance treatments: the waterproofing sprays, stain-repellent finishes, and wrinkle-guard coatings that get added to fabric after the fact to make it do something it wouldn't do on its own.
We read that news, and we're super happy about it, even though we've just never added that stuff in the first place. Not because we're ahead of a regulation - we didn't know Sweden was going to do this - but because a chemical coating has never been part of how we think about fit and comfort, especially for underwear.
That's not a claim that our fabric is "chemical-free". We want to be careful not to overstate that. Bamboo viscose needs chemicals to be produced. However, what we can tell you honestly is that we don't apply performance coatings, or purchase fabric that has that type of chemical added. Our bamboo viscose is OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified and tested for harmful substances before it gets to us.
Regulations like Sweden's are a good thing. We'd love to see this come to Canada too. Let's make great fashion, with great fabric.
